Assessments A survey by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHrM)identified that skills shortages in the workforce appear to be growing. In thepoll of over 400 Human Resources managers and 300 employees, 55% said thatworkers entering the job market in the next 10 years will lack the competenciesneeded for success!

When asked which competencies and skills would be most critical theyidentified the following list:

Adaptability 47% Critical Thinking 41% Leadership 37% Work Ethic 37% Teamwork35% Creativity 31% Writing 26% Ethics 24% Self-direction 24% Speaking 24% CivicDuty 11% Entrepreneurship 10% Foreign Language 8% Math 7%

When asked about how they would train and develop their workforce, 50% ofthe HR professionals reported that their organizations were relying moreheavily on online tutorials and guided programs.

So here is today’s Daily HR Tip: When screening applicants for positions inyour organization, are you looking for adaptability, critical thinking skills,leadership potential, and a sound work ethic?. If not, you may be selectingcandidates who don’t have the “right stuff” to be successful in the workplaceof the future.
